About Us

Welcome to PlayingBetterGuitar.Com!
My name is Ken and I started learning guitar about a year and a half ago at age 53. I’ve wanted to learn guitar since I was a kid in elementary school watching the nuns and older kids play in church. We weren’t very well off and my parents discouraged me from learning an instrument. I think it was because they couldn’t afford a guitar or the lessons, but also because they wanted me to learn something that could lead to predictable financial success.
When I was older, more established and my kids became more independent at school, my wife encouraged me to look into guitar again. Our kids had a lot of musical education when they were growing up (piano, trombone, high school band, school choir, musical theater, and voice lessons), but it never occurred to me to learn myself. I was older and it seemed too late. Nothing could be further from the truth. I have thoroughly enjoyed the experience. Whatever your age, 7 or 75, I highly encourage you to give music a try. It’s been one of the most rewarding experiences in my life.
Helping Myself and Others Learn Faster
This site started as a private guitar learning journal that I kept on my PC. I’d keep track of my notes and the ups and downs of my practice and guitar learning. As I learned more, researched guitar lessons online and experimented with my learning, I realized that other beginners might benefit from the information that I had winnowed through. I could help them learn faster, find resources more easily, avoid wasting their time with things that don’t work.
