Beginner Guitar Chords

This video was one of most influential videos I’ve experienced in my guitar journey. I didn’t realize it at the time, but looking back on it now, I’ve come to realize that what I learned on this video has helped me play better and do my chord transitions faster and more easily.

When I started learning guitar from a book, I was learning the G-chord and fretting the chord with the 1 (index), 2 (middle), and 3 (ring) fingers. That’s what the book said and i took it as the one way I should learn and play the G-chord. As a ignorant newbie, I had no reason to question it.

The most influential part of this video was Nate’s lesson on the G-chord. Instead of playing the way I learned in the book, Nate pointed me to playing the G Major chord using the 2 (middle), 3 (ring), and 4 (pinky) fingers. Playing this way made C-chord and other chord transitions much easier than if I had stuck with learning strictly ‘by the boo’. Check the video out. I’m sure you’ll get as much out of it as I did.
