Fender Play: Level 1, Course 02, Acoustic Guitar, Pop Genre

I started with Fender Play as a total beginner to music and guitar. One of the earliest lessons I can remember was Level 1, Course 02. The earlier lessons taught you the basic parts of the guitar, the strings, etc., but this was where I first started “playing” guitar, or at least practicing on the instrument.

This lesson is a basic warm up exercise that starts you on fretting and playing notes on the high E-string. It gets you stretching your hand to fret notes from the 1st to 4th fret. It’s a “hidden” exercise in the acoustic guitar, pop genre. Unlike most Fender Play lessons which all share the same core exercises, it’s only found in the acoustic guitar, pop genre lessons.

I practiced them as a warmup at the beginning my daily guitar practice for the first few months on Fender Play. I practiced it not only on high E-string, but on all the strings. It was kind of like my beginner spider exercise and helped me practice fretting the other strings while trying to avoid touching the neighboring strings. If you’re just starting out on Fender Play, take a look at it in the acoustic guitar, pop genre lessons and put them in your favorites. Eventually, you’ll memorize them and can do them by memory to a metronome without using the exercise.
