For What It’s Worth, Buffalo Springfield Tutorials & Extra Credit Practice
For Fender Play students who have reached Level 02, Course 08, electric guitar, rock genre, will be familiar with Buffalo Springfield’s, “For What It’s Worth”. Even if you’re not doing the rock genre, you’ll know the song. Simple and moving, “For What It’s Worth”, is one of the best-known protest songs coming out of the 1960s.
Fender Play’s lesson is a good start. It’s relatively slow with an 80 bps and students strum one chord per bar for most of the exercise. However, if you’re looking to stretch yourself, Try working with the backing track below. There’s less support when playing and the song becomes more challenging because of it. The Fender Play exercise is a little different from the backing track below, I highly encourage Fender Play students to give it a try. You’re forced to maintain the beat and count and match your timing with the overall track. If possible, I encourage you to try to not look at the track and instead rely on your ear to keep pace.
I know that it is challenging for beginners. If you can’t keep up right away, try coming back to it after doing more of the Fender Play lessons. I think the ability to perform independently of the Fender Play tools is an important part of your development as a guitarist and musician. Keep pushing yourself and give it a try.
